he NasDem Party, the nation’s fourth largest party and a member of the coalition government, is entering another round of discussions over potential presidential nominees for 2024 with the opposition Democratic Party and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) as talks about forming an electoral alliance intensify.

NasDem is still trying to build “common ground” with the two opposition parties, a necessary step before forming an alliance or talking potential nominees, according to executive chair Willy Aditya.

"We are still trying to find common ground. There's no need to rush, because it takes two to tango and we are still monitoring the dynamics” of other parties’ progress in building alliances, Willy said on Tuesday.

Discussions were expected to intensify between the three parties, he added, as who to nominate for president was the subject of upcoming talks.

"In the next meeting, we will talk about [nominees]. We plan to have this meeting in the near future that will involve smaller teams [from each party], unlike past meetings that involved big delegations," Willy said.

Democrat chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has held three closed-door meetings with NasDem chair Surya Paloh in recent weeks to discuss cooperating for the 2024 general election.
