outheast Asian and European Union business and government lenders have agreed to strengthen cooperation on sustainability, supply-chain energy security as well as digital economies during the 10th ASEAN-EU Business Summit in Brussels on Dec. 13.

Organized by the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), the summit was held a day before leaders from both regions met for the political EU-ASEAN Summit.

Regarding the cooperation, Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto acknowledged that the current global economy is in bad shape, plagued by multidimensional issues.

In the face of challenges, Indonesia, which assumes the chairmanship of ASEAN Summit next year, will address three priorities.

“One is to expand regional growth through connected and harmonized markets. Second is to accelerate the digital economy in ASEAN and third is to strengthen the resilience of ASEAN economies,” Airlangga stated, as quoted from a press statement released on Wednesday.

Apart from enhancing connectivity, he noted, cooperation in the economic sector and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was also a priority for Indonesia as the grouping’s chair next year.
