Almost nine years on from their first election debate, President Jokowi and his ally Prabowo Subianto have cemented a symbiotic relationship that many believe could benefit them both in 2024.

Supporters of the Coalition for Change, a political alliance between the NasDem Party and the only two opposition parties in the legislative body, the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), are seeking to solidify their political partnership amid speculations the prospective coalition is now dead on arrival. 

The meeting comes after several parties in the ruling coalition called for the removal of NasDem-affiliated ministers, in response to the party announcing its 2024 backing for ex-Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

At the meeting, Prabowo praised Bobby's leadership of the city, crediting him with improving the quality of life in the North Sumatran capital.

"There's no such a proposal. The idea is to serve two terms and each term lasts nine years," Abdul Halim said as quoted by kompas.com.

"There's definitely a discussion about that. It's a private meeting so it's a loss if I don't talk about it [gubernatorial race]," Gibran said as quoted by Antara.
