or the past two years, Southeast Asia has been enjoying a better level of air quality following social restrictions posed during the pandemic. However, as restrictions began to ease, so did air pollution levels with Jakarta ranking first place for worst air quality in the world according to Swiss air quality technology company IQAir back in June.

In commemoration of ASEAN and the European Union’s 45 years of partnership, ASEAN-EU is hosting a series of events including a virtual cycling event. Named Bike45Ride, the competition is part of their effort to encourage the transition toward greener and more eco-friendly transportation.

Online participants can register as an individual or as a team with a maximum of five people to cover a total distance of 45 kilometer within one month. They can virtually connect to the race using applications such as Strava and Garmin Connect on their smartwatch or smartphone.

Once they are connected, the platforms will track their cycling activities and calculate the total distance a biker or a team of bikers have accumulated. Winners will receive an attractive set of prizes including a bicycle, smartwatch, gadgets and cycling apparel.

The competition is free of charge and is open to all ASEAN and EU citizens over the age of 17 residing in Southeast Asia. Register yourself or your team before Sep. 11, 2022 here.
