dul Fitri 1441 H, which will fall on May 24 and 25, will be an extraordinary holiday for “BNI Hi-Movers” –the employees of PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI).

Unlike previous Lebaran holidays, BNI Hi-Movers are now experiencing a social calling to provide assistance to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and they are sparing a part of their holiday bonuses (THR) for donations. This social act by BNI Hi-Movers has resulted in an accumulation of Rp 130.2 billion (US$ 8.8 million) to be donated for emergency needs in the mitigation of COVID-19.

The communal act is also expected to encourage Indonesians to stay optimistic through sharing kindness with those who are fighting the impact of COVID-19.

Furthermore, BNI wants to establish togetherness, by stating that it is always there for the community in every condition especially during a difficult time like now. The expectation is that the sooner COVID-19 can be mitigated, the sooner the community’s life will return to normal. Therefore, the donation of the employees’ holiday bonuses is packaged as part of the program titled #AntarkanSemangat (delivering the spirit) to everyone who is fighting against COVID-19.

“BNI Hi-Movers are here for Indonesia by giving direct contributions in an effort to accelerate the prevention and mitigation of the COVID-19 impact, so that the economy can resume moving. The opportunity –coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan- is very timely, in which the value of every good deed is multiplied,” BNI vice president director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said in a statement on Wednesday.

The BNI employees’ donations are to be distributed through two large aid groups, namely Bantuan Kesehatan (Health Aid) and Bantuan Pangan (Food Aid).

Health Aid will be delivered to 10 “Swamed” (self-medication) clinics in 10 different areas, as well as in the form of two ambulances that meet the standards for COVID-19 patient treatment. The Health Aid is also allocated into the provision of three sets of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing equipment, 10,000 items of personal protective equipment (PPE) and 51,000 COVID-19 tests.

Meanwhile, Food Aid will be distributed in the form of nine sembako (staple foods) that is expected to reach 313,000 families.
