Many individuals and organizations around the globe have been conveying their moral and material support to these workers, who are sacrificing their own well-being on the frontline of this crisis, by giving them a round of applause or donating personal protective equipment.
Indonesian super app Gojek has also sought to take part.
With app-based transportation one of the super app’s main areas of expertise, on April 2, it decided to support healthcare workers by providing exclusive travel vouchers for hundreds of hospitals, based on recommendations from the Health Ministry, regional health agencies as well as the Indonesian Hospitals Association.
Understandably, getting to work is a major concern for Indonesian healthcare workers, as many do not own vehicles, or if they do, there might be days when they cannot drive.
With this in mind, Gojek is providing these hospitals with six travel vouchers worth Rp 48,000 (US$3.16) each day to help cover the travel costs of healthcare workers.
The vouchers are valid for GoRide, GoCar and GoCar L, depending on how each region implements its large-scale social restriction (PSBB) measures.
In addition, to provide the public with up-to-date date information on COVID-19 infection rates in Indonesia (supplied by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency) and a list of COVID-19 referral hospitals and where they are located (supplied by the Health Ministry and regional health agencies), Gojek launched on April 28 the COVID-19 Info Center.
The feature provides an info hub for users to access COVID-19 related information and get directions to referral hospitals. Users can also access emergency hotlines managed by local governments and authorities for assistance. In addition, the feature also provides a link to telemedicine service HaloDoc to help virtually connect people with healthcare professionals so as to reduce the burden on referral hospitals.
At this time, when many hospitals are crowded with patients, hotlines and telemedicine services can also save users the hassle of traveling from one hospital to another to get the help they need.
To access the new feature, simply click this link on your cell phone, and make sure your Gojek app is updated to the latest version.
If members of the general public and healthcare workers work hand-in-hand, we can see this crisis through and stay safe all the while.
