ndonesia’s top energy firm PT Pertamina is the only company from the archipelagic state to be listed in the 2019 Fortune Global 500. State-owned energy company Pertamina is ranked in 175th slot, up by 78 slots from its 253th ranking in the previous year.
Pertamina’s vice president for corporate communications Fajriyah Usman said Pertamina’s achievement was a result of the support of many sides, including its management and workers, the government, the general public and other stakeholders and it proved that Pertamina was equal to other world-class companies.
“We’re proud that Pertamina reached the rating of top 175 in the Fortune Global 500. It is also proud for Indonesia, as Pertamina has proven to be able to compete at an international level. We should be grateful and it should be a new challenge for us to continually grow and provide the maximum benefits for the general public,” said Fajriyah.
In 2018, Pertamina booked a total income of US$57.93 billion, an increase of 34.9 percent from that in 2017. It managed to book a net profit of $2.52 billion, with total assets reaching $64.7 billion and a total of 31,569 employees in all of its operations across the globe.
Fajriyah further said that the growth of Pertamina was due to its consistency in continually ensuring the availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability and sustainability of national energy.
"We’d like to thank the government and all of the people who have trusted Pertamina to maintain national energy security and who have supported Pertamina as an internationally recognized company,” he said.
The Fortune Global 500 rating has been published annually by Fortune magazine since 1955. Starting with the list of the 500 largest companies in various sectors in the US, the rating, now at the global level, is currently based on 12 indicators. The main factors for consideration include consolidated gross revenue, shareholders’ capital injection, market capitalization, profit, number of employees, and since 1990 the indicator of countries of origins have also been considered in the FORTUNE Global 500.
