ndonesia has been entrusted to host the 26th ASEAN Labour Minister Meeting (ALMM) and the 11th  ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting plus Japan, Korea and China (ALMM + 3) in 2020.

The appointment of Indonesia as the host of the two biennial events was mentioned in the two joint agreements made at the regional meeting held recently. “Apart from achieving the success of the upcoming meetings, Indonesia as host will also push a discussion of an agenda relevant to the issues of workers in ASEAN and Indonesia,” said the Manpower Ministry's labor supervision and health and work safety director General Maruli A. Hasoloan in response to the appointment.

The theme of the meeting will be discussed jointly by all members of ASEAN and ASEAN +3 in a series of meetings prior to the events. Certainly, the theme should respond to the relevant and most recent issues pertaining to manpower. “Indonesia will actively take initiatives and propose ideas in the upcoming series of meetings prior to the events, as Indonesia did previously,” Maruli added.

He cited providing children of migrant workers with access to education as one of Indonesia’s exemplary workforce-related initiatives, which was discussed jointly at the previous meeting. Other examples include how to enhance the competence of would-be migrant workers and the importance of safe migration efforts and of how to respond to the impact that industry 4.0 has on workers.
