Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a pro-Kremlin broadcast that Washington had "full control" over the waters around Denmark and Sweden where four leaks have been detected on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, which cross the floor of the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany.

"North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile into the East Sea," Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, referring to the waters more commonly known as the Sea of Japan.

Europe has been investigating what Germany, Denmark and Sweden have said were attacks which caused major leaks into the Baltic Sea from the two Russian gas pipelines at the centre of an energy standoff. The countries have not said who could be behind the attack. 

Speaking after attending Tuesday's funeral for assassinated former Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, Harris accused China of "disturbing behaviour" in the East China Sea and South China Sea and "provocations across the Taiwan Strait".

But it remained far from clear who might be behind the leaks that were first reported on Monday or any foul play, if proven, on the Nord Stream pipelines that Russia and European partners spent billions of dollars building.

Leaders from the Pacific Island Forum bloc have been invited to the two-day White House summit starting Wednesday, at which the Biden administration seeks to compete with China for influence in the strategically important South Pacific.

Kishida reached the agreements during separate meetings with Anthony Albanese and Narendra Modi ahead of the state funeral for Abe in Tokyo, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

In a statement released before his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Ma'ruf said that Japan continued to be an important partner for Indonesia and that his presence at Abe's funeral would be further proof of those close ties.

Tatsunori Motoki, a consul at the Japanese Consulate General in Vladivostok, was declared persona non grata and has been ordered to leave the country within 48 hours following his detention. He was released after being held for a few hours, a Japanese government source said Tuesday.

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and his wife Wury Ma’ruf Amin left for Tokyo on Sunday morning to attend the funeral of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.

"Many Asian countries, especially Malaysia and Indonesia, show great interest in our defence industry products. Agreements are being signed," Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told a press conference in Tokyo. 

The official also told reporters that Washington welcomes Japan's increased military strength and security role.

The curbs were lifted for the first time in more than 2-1/2 years after the city's leader, John Lee, said last week that such arrivals could return home or seek accommodation of their choice, but had to self-monitor for three days on entry. 

The four-day naval exercise through Thursday in the Sea of Japan involves the Ronald Reagan, a nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier, which entered the southern port city of Busan last Friday. It is aimed at improving the two navies' ability to operate together in contingencies.

The poll signals challenges for the current military-aligned government, with potential voters listing the two main opposition parties as their top two preferences, although many remained undecided.
