Macau, great sports and tourism destination

A

re you looking forward to having a unique way to experience different cultures, meet new people, and challenge yourself physically and mentally while creating memorable experiences?

If so, you need to engage in sports and tourism activities.

Today, the increasingly preferred sports and tourism destination in China is, surely, Macao or Macau.

Macau, often referred to as the "Las Vegas of the East", is located on China's southern coast, 60 km west of Hong Kong, on the western side of the Pearl River estuary.

When it comes to sports and tourism, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), a leading owner, operator and developer of premier integrated entertainment resorts in Macau, is in the frontline in transforming Macau into the world’s most iconic sports and tourism destination. It continues to take great strides in promoting sports and growth of tourists in Macau.

Recently, SJM has initiated the return of SJM Macao Open after a six-year absence. The Oct. 12-15 SJM Macao Open, which brought world-class golf back to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China, is deemed hugely significant for the Asian Tour.

Taking part in SJM Macao Tournament at the picturesque and challenging Macau Golf and Country Club including the world’s leading player and rising Australian star Min Woo Lee, young talent Taichi Kho of Hong Kong, and China’s legendary trailblazer, Zhang Lianwei.

SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho pointed out in an interview, “In fact, SJM is really an ardent supporter of sports events. One of SJM’s initiative is to support the Macau SAR Government’s ‘Tourism + Sports’ cross-sector integration by bringing in world-class sports events to Macau, thereby further strengthening Macau’s position as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure,” she said.

Referring to the return of SJM Macao Open, she said, “Two decades ago, our parent company, STDM, was the first to develop the Macau Golf and Country Club containing an 18-hole Championship golf course, which is one of the oldest established golf clubs in Southern China, so the tournament’s return means a lot to SJM.”

According to her, the tournament's return especially after the three-year pandemic, gives SJM the opportunity to showcase Macau's culture, spirit, and newest hospitality products to the world.

“The signature event on the Asian Tour is one of Macau’s longest-standing international competitions and is our city’s pride. This year marks the 20th edition, made possible only with the unwavering support from the Macau SAR Government, golf association, the country club, and the local industry. SJM is proud to rekindle this legacy, and attracting fans and sport enthusiasts by bringing more memorable moments to them, thereby boasting Macau’s economy.”

This year, SJM has already supported the 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races, an annual event held in collaboration with the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government.

“Furthermore, we will once again be the title sponsor for the 2023 CTA Tour SJM Professional Finals (Macau) in early December,” she said
