Some 12,000 new West Jakarta residents have been recorded since Idul Fitri, a senior official said on Thursday.

West Jakarta Deputy Mayor Muhammad Zen said that the data came to light when the municipality held a civil registration in several areas following the holiday. “Based on the data, about 12,300 new people have come to West Jakarta.” Muhammad said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the municipality was ready to issue  letters of temporary domicile (SKDS) for the newcomers.

New residents may apply for the SKDS in 56 regencies in West Jakarta, with the process involving regents, community unit (RW) heads and neighborhood unit (RT) heads.

“We ask RT and RW heads to account for newcomers to confirm that these people have come from outside the region to West Jakarta,” he said.

Muhammad added that the municipality had a high population density.

“The population density in West Jakarta has exceeded its capacity. In Cengkareng Barat alone, the population density is about 20,000 people per square kilometer,” he said. (acr)
