ocal police have named two vocational high school students as suspects for assaulting an elderly woman on a road in South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Saturday.
South Tapanuli Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Imam Zamroni said the students were charged with simple assault under the Criminal Code which carries a maximum penalty of three months detention time.
The students were caught on camera attacking the woman while riding on motorcycles. One of the suspects kicked the woman, while the other hit her with a wooden stick, Imam said.
Both suspects are not detained, he said. Upon examination, the police found no injury on the woman.
A video clip of the attack circulated on social media. A representative of the students’ families has apologized for the incident.
“I deeply apologize for the actions of our children who committed violence against a woman,” Maraindo Harahap, the representative, said. (dre)
