The Russian and Ukrainian governments have praised the stance and efforts made amid the ongoing conflict by Indonesia, which holds the Group of 20 (G20) presidency and will host the summit in six months.
Both the Russian and Ukrainian embassies in Jakarta made their praises as they held simultaneous press briefings on Wednesday to reaffirm their stances on the 107-days-old conflict.
Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva said she was appreciative of Indonesia’s commitment to remaining impartial.
“We are appreciative of the Indonesian presidency, we are happy that it has stayed neutral. Also very happy that many Indonesians have good feelings toward the Russians,” Ambassador Vorobieva said.
At the same time, from another part of the capital, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia Vasyl Hamianin said he was very grateful that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took the war very seriously.
He then proceeded to quote Jokowi’s stance against the war in Indonesian.
“[The President] has said that the war in Ukraine has to stop because it endangers the world, war brings misery to mankind and puts the world at risk,” Ambassador Hamianin said in an online briefing.
