Local professionals perceive a lack of career growth opportunities and a poor work-life balance due to the pandemic.
lmost a third of Indonesian professionals are likely to leave their current jobs due to a lack of career growth opportunities in their company and pandemic-related changes, according to a recent survey on national and multinational companies in Indonesia.
Mercer, a global consulting firm, said on Tuesday that a third of the employees surveyed felt they could not meet their career goals in their current companies. The firm also found that mid-career professionals in their 30s were least likely to stay as they felt a lack of upskilling opportunities.
“Taking compensation and benefits out of the equation, employees believe they can seek better and greater opportunities outside of their current organization, hence they often choose not to stay,” Isdar Marwan, director of career services at Mercer Indonesia, said in a statement.

While battling the pandemic, companies around the world are facing a wave of worker resignations, a trend dubbed “The Great Resignation”.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) wrote in November last year that the term described the record number of people leaving their jobs after the pandemic, prompting companies to re-evaluate their strategies to retain talent.
Marwan said there was a gap in Indonesian employee expectations for career advancement vis-a-vis the global workforce. Around 40 percent of Indonesian employees surveyed did not have a good understanding of possible career paths within their company.
